Wines and beers
Friuli Venezia Giulia has a natural vocation for high quality wines, among which the whites which have achieved huge international consensus. But the reds too, especially in recent years, have been able to reach peaks of excellence.
There are eight DOC zones, three DOCG and two interregional DOC zones, for a total of about 1500 wineries producing 80 million bottles a year, with a prevalence of Pinot Grigio and the two indigenous jewels: Ramandolo and Picolit.
Friuli-Aquileia, Carso, Collio, Friuli Colli Orientali, Friuli Grave, Friuli Latisana, Friuli-Isonzo, Friuli Annia.
Next to Picolit and Ramandolo, the "meditation" wines, varieties, the most common red grapes are Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Refosco dal peduncolo rosso, Terrano, Pinot nero and Schioppettino.
White wine varieties are Friulano, Verduzzo friulano, Malvasia istriana, Chardonnay, Pinot bianco, Pinot grigio, Ribolla, Riesling, Sauvignon and Traminer aromatico.
The brewery scene has carved itself fame and recognition over the years with major international brands and the region has been able to renew its beer-making tradition.
Thanks to the undisputed quality and purity of the region’s water, its products are of the highest level: the result of a great deal of passion for an all-natural beer that is suitable for anyone, even those who do not consider themselves as beer lovers have been known to change their minds after tasting it.
